Artist and researcher. Ph.D. in engineering (the University of Tokyo). Her video art in her twenties was collected by the Museum of Modern Art in New York, propelling her into the intersection of art and science. Dr. Tosa pioneers Cultural Computing, exploring the intersection of advanced technology and Japanese cultural archetypes. She established the Art Innovation Joint Research Division at Kyoto University and currently serves as a Poject Professor at the Disaster Prevention Research Institute at Kyoto University. She was Artist Fellow at the Center for Advanced Visual Studies in the Department of Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 2016, she was appointed as a Cultural Envoy by the Agency for Cultural Affairs.
